Air Jordan 4 Sizing Guide: Do Jordan 4s Run True to Size?
Few silhouettes in sneaker history are as instantly recognizable as the Air Jordan 4. From the iconic wing eyelets to the visible Air unit, the AJ4 has been a cornerstone of collections since 1989. But before you add one to your rotation, the question everyone asks is simple: what size Jordan 4 should I buy?
The short answer: Jordan 4s run true to size. Most people should order their usual Nike or Jordan size and get a comfortable, secure fit. That said, a few things are worth knowing before you check out – especially if you are between sizes or have wider feet.
Do Jordan 4s fit true to size?
Yes. Across virtually every retro colorway, the AJ4 uses the same consistent last as other Air Jordan models, which means sizing carries over reliably. If you wear a US 9 in an Air Jordan 1 or a Dunk Low, a US 9 in the Air Jordan 4 will fit the same way.
Compared with the AJ1, the AJ4 has a slightly roomier toe box, and the padded collar holds the heel nicely. For most feet, your true size is the right call.
Should I size up or down in Jordan 4s?
There are two cases where you might want to adjust:
- Wide feet: The AJ4’s midfoot can feel snug on wider feet. If you normally find Nike/Jordan shoes tight across the midfoot, go half a size up.
- Thick socks: Planning to wear thicker crew or boot socks in colder months? Half a size up gives you comfortable room without the shoe feeling loose.
- Between sizes: When you are between two sizes, we recommend the larger one – the AJ4 is most comfortable with a little breathing room at the toe.
Half sizes are available on most colorways, so you can dial in the fit precisely.
Popular Jordan 4 colorways to consider
The AJ4 looks great in almost any colorway, which is part of why it stays in demand year after year:
- Air Jordan 4 Retro Metallic Gold – a clean, versatile pair with just enough shine
- Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Pure Money’ – the all-white classic that goes with everything
- Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 ‘Brick by Brick’ – a modern collaboration favorite
- Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Toro Bravo’ – bold red energy for statement outfits
How should Jordan 4s fit?
When you put on the right size, you should feel the heel locked in with about a thumb’s width of space between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. The AJ4’s padded tongue and collar mean it hugs the foot more than a low-top – that’s normal and part of the support the shoe is known for.
After a short break-in period (usually a few wears), the materials soften and the fit settles into its most comfortable state.
Jordan 4 vs. Jordan 1 vs. Dunk: how does sizing compare?
All three silhouettes fit true to size, and if you own one of them, you can confidently order the same size in the others:
- AJ1 High/Low – true to size, slightly snugger toe box
- AJ4 – true to size, a touch more room in the toe, roomier midfoot than the AJ1
- Dunk Low / SB Dunk – true to size; SB Dunks have a padded collar that runs snug at first
